Great show!

My wife grew up near the mall used in Back to the Future. The mall is the Puente Hills Mall, and I used to get lunch at that mall when I worked nearby (although JC Penney had moved out by the mid 90s). That mall became something of a ghost-town in the mid 90s. I think it's bounced back since that time, but it's been years since I visited the area.

The neighborhood in the movie, I believe, is just a sound-stage. There is nothing in the area of that mall that resembles "Hill Valley."

Skateboard - Michael J. Fox rode a Valterra skateboard. I searched for and found one just like the one used in the movie. Michael J. Fox is largely responsible for my interest in skateboarding moving from a novelty to full-blown skating for more than 20 years now into my late 30s. I'm still waiting for the hoverboards. :) He learned to skate for this role, by the way. To that end, as soon as I got my Valterra "Back to the Future" skateboard, my mom threatened me to within an inch of my life, if I ever tried to "skitch" on the back of a car (skitching is the act of grabbing the bumper/ tailgate and skating behind the car). I tried it anyway on her car one day. She grounded me pretty good...

De Lorean - yes, the "skin" was stainless steel. Gullwing doors. Cool car.

IMDB reports that Eric Stolz (Some Kind of Wonderful and Mask) actually started filming as Marty McFly and was recast after disagreements with the remainder of the cast and crew about the tone of the film.
